Our School and the
Foundation of Lady Katherine Leveson

History
The School is fortunate in being a part of an Anglican charitable foundation set up in 1674 by Lady Katherine Leveson. She endowed Temple Balsall with land and money to educate poor boys of the area, restore the Church building and provide homes for the elderly women in need. These three aspects of the Foundation's work: the School, the Church and the work of care of older people are interconnected and enriched through each of the elements. For over 300 years this work has continued in a beautiful rural setting. We hope that you might want to visit the site and see something of its distinctive character and quality.

Caring for Older People
Adjacent to the School buildings lies the early 18th century Almshouse buildings where nearly 50 older people are cared for in supported housing or residential care. The School enjoys good links with the older residents and the work of care.

St Mary's Church
Beyond the School and Almshouse buildings lies the wonderful 14th century parish church. There are particularly strong links between the Church community and the School. Each Thursday morning the children have their active worship led by the Vicar.

The Church community is keen to welcome families and children to the Sunday morning parish Eucharist at 10.00 am. On the last Sunday of each month there is a Sunday school and on the first Sunday of the month a more informal family Eucharist. The Church also welcomes children and their families for Baptism and Confirmation. The Vicar is also available for pastoral support.

Our Shared Christian Ethos
The work of the School, Care and the Church belong together in nurturing a Christian ethos that is open, friendly, responsive and caring. We are all very proud of our history and work together in responding to the challenges and opportunities of education and care.
