Spring term 1

Spring term 1 Reception

Welcome back to Reception I hope you had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year’s activities.

This term we are beginning by looking at chilly winter, which is quite appropriate considering the current weather conditions. We will then be moving onto traditional tales.

During this term we will be continuing with our writing, phonics and looking at shape, measure, addition and subtraction in maths so once again it looks like it is will be a very busy, but enjoyable half term.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN

This term we will continue to be doing lots of art activities these will include making castles, puppets, painting, modelling, collage, cooking and possibly some experiments too!

Art is a vital part of children’s learning and development and it is always a pleasure to see their work so if your children complete any work at home please send it in to be shared with the class.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

PE sessions will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays; children must wear school P.E. Kit: yellow short sleeved T- shirt, royal blue shorts or jogging bottoms and black pumps. You also need to provide white socks for these sessions.  Please put PE kits into a drawstring P.E. bag as the kits are kept in our PE box.  The children will continue learning to dress and undress for these sessions independently so may I please request that you support this at home by encouraging independent dressing, may I also request that you  label all items of clothing (even socks!).

Please note that children without PE kits will not participate in these sessions.

LITERACY

Children will continue to participate in daily letters and sounds sessions throughout the year. They will have a range of letter and sound activities to complete in both group and individual sessions and where I deem necessary intervention sessions.

Children will continue to be developing their writing, skills; I ask that where ever possible you continue to encourage this at home i.e. get the children to write your shopping list using their phonic knowledge.

The children will continue to choose a book from the classroom library to share with you at home this is always done on a Monday morning, at this time a scheme reading book is also sent home. Can you please ensure books are sent into school on this day otherwise books may not be changed until the following week. May I also request that you read with your child at home twice a week minimum; this will ensure your children keep progressing.

HOMEWORK

Homework will be sent home on a Wednesday and I ask that it is returned by Monday at the latest. Homework is important as it allows me to check that the children have understood various teachings that we have undertaken during the week, as such a record will be kept each week noting who has returned their work Please continue to work with your child/children on this.

Uniform

Uniform is a vital part of school life. Please ensure your children are wearing the correct uniform each day. This consists of a blue shirt, grey skirt or trousers, grey socks, Lady K blue jumper or cardigan and black shoes.

UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD

Forest school sessions have changed to a Tuesday afternoon with Ms. Tonks. The children enjoy these sessions and it is a time for children to learn outside of the classroom. Please ensure forest school clothes are sent in for these sessions.

As the cold weather is now upon us may I request that you send your children in with a warm winter coat, hat and gloves as throughout the week we still access the outdoor learning area as I’m a firm believer that children need fresh air, regardless of the cold.  Please label all items especially hats and gloves.

PERSONAL SOCIAL EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The children are progressing at a wonderful rate not just academically, but personally too I am confident that this will continue during this term.

Please continue to leave your child/children at the door as this continues to minimize the possible distress for the children.

A member of staff will be available at the door and also on the gate to discuss any issues before the school day. You can also contact me on the class dojo.

I would like to thank you for your continued support, and for spoiling me at Christmas (I actually got more presents than my own children)

I will continue working hard and providing lots of fun, educational activities to ensure your children progress but continue to enjoy their time at school.

As always I operate an open door policy so if you would like to discuss anything with me please just ask or contact me via the school email address.
