Spring term 2

Spring term 2

Welcome back to our spring term I hope you had a good rest. I am looking forward to this term as our topic is animals and the weather should be getting warmer which will allow many more outdoor learning sessions to take place.

PE sessions will continue to take place take place on Mondays and Thursdays, children must wear school P.E. Kit: yellow short sleeved T- shirt, royal blue shorts or jogging bottoms and black pumps. Please put kit into a drawstring P.E bag and this will be kept on your child’s coat peg. Throughout the year the children will be learning to dress and undress for these sessions independently please may I request that you support this at home by encouraging independent dressing, may I also request that you label all items of clothing (even socks!). Please Note if your children do not have a PE kit they will be unable to participate in the P.E sessions.

Children will continue with their daily letters and sounds practise. We are currently using the read, write, Inc scheme which was introduced before the half term. The children have responded well to the sessions and I am excited to see the development. If you would like more information regarding this scheme please visit the website which is packed with useful information especially for parents.

Children will also be encouraged to continue developing their writing skills with this terms focus being on writing sentences.

Reading books will continue to be sent home on a Monday and children will be encouraged to choose a library book. Please can you ensure books are sent back on this day. May I also ask that you continue reading at home with your child it really does make a huge difference in their learning.

Can you also please ensure book bags are brought to school on a daily basis.

The children will be continue to be involved in daily mathematic activities. This term we will be focusing on money, shape, addition and subtraction. We will continue to secure and develop number knowledge with numbers initially 0-50 developing to 0-100.

There are many opportunities in our daily lives to develop children’s mathematical learning e.g

Shopping trips, sorting activities, singing number rhymes please encourage learning at home wherever possible.

The children will continue to be participating in forest school sessions on a Tuesday afternoon with Ms. Tonks. During these sessions children will continue to learn about the environment and discuss and identify changes that happen during spring. Please ensure that forest school clothes and wellingtons are brought in for these sessions.

Throughout the week children will also have the opportunity to access the outdoor learning areas, during our free choice sessions, although the warmer weather is coming can you please send your children in with a warm coat as the days can still be quite cool.

During this term the children will be learning to sew. I plan to have the children design and make animals this should be a fun activity and will develop the children’s fine motor skills.

We will also be doing some cooking, painting, puzzles and many other activities that develop the children’s artistic side.

As always we will continue to develop the children’s confidence and independence.

so at the start of the school day I request that you continue to  leave your child/children at the door. A member of staff will be available at the door to discuss any issues before the school day.

I also request that no personal possessions are brought to class e.g. a favourite teddy as they are liable to be misplaced and cause upset.

As many of your children are now 5, or rapidly approaching 5, unfortunately they are no longer entitled to free milk. If you would like your child to continue receiving milk please complete the letter you will have been sent or contact the office.

Homework will continue to be sent home on a Wednesday and I ask that it is returned by Monday at the latest. Homework is important as it allows me to check that the children have understood various teachings that we have undertaken during the week. Any homework not completed will be completed on a Friday afternoon in the children’s golden time.

You will also receive a set of high frequency words each week can you please practice reading and writing these words with your children.

Uniform is a vital part of school life. Please ensure your children are wearing the correct uniform each day. This consists of a blue shirt, grey skirt or trousers, grey socks, Lady K blue jumper or cardigan and black shoes.

As always I thank you for your continued support as usual I am very much looking forward to starting this exciting and busy new half term in Reception.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
