 Attendance Leads:

School Target     - 96%

Attendance at school is vital; children who attend well are statistically far more likely to be on-track with their learning, to be socially confident and to have the skills they need for life.

At Lady Katherine Leveson School, we recognise that good attendance provides our children with the best chance of achieving their potential.  Over the last few years, we have worked tirelessly to improve our attendance and punctuality and attendance will continue to be high on our list of priorities.

Over the last few years, we have worked in very close partnership with our Educational Welfare Officer to make sure that our children are in school and well supported.  Our school's attendance target is 96%.

Ofsted deem children whose attendance is below 90% as a 'persistent absentee'.  Any child whose attendance is 90% or below will have a pupil profile put in place and we will liaise with the child's parent/carer to see how we can support the family and how their attendance can be improved.

Every half-term, we look at all children's attendance data, paying particular attention to children whose attendance is below 90%, or hovering around the 90% mark.  We look at the reasons for absence and if we know that, for example, a child has recently had an illness but their attendance is usually good, then we will simply monitor them to make sure it returns to normal.  If a child's absence is below 90%, without a valid reason, their parent/carer may be invited to attend school to have a discussion with us and/or our Headteacher in order that we can work alongside the family to improve their child's attendance.

Children should be in school during term-time.  Term-time holidays should be avoided.  The school follows Solihull MBC's Policy, whereby ALL holiday requests during term-time will be unauthorised, except in exceptional circumstances, i.e., a parent is in the Armed Forces.  Requests for a leave of absence should be submitted in writing at least two weeks in advance.  The 'leave of absence form' can be found below.

If your child is away from school, please telephone the school office, (01564 772 374), on the first day of absence.  When your child returns to school, please send in a note or an email explaining the reason for their absence.

In terms of illness, and in line with Solihull MBC's School Nurse Team's advice, if your child has been sick or had diarrhoea, they should be kept at home until they have been clear for 48 hours.  If your child has a contagious illness, such as chicken pox, we would be grateful if you could advise us accordingly.

We encourage our parents/carers to make routine medical appointments, where possible, outside of the school day and bring a copy of their child's appointment card/letter into school for our records.

If any of our parents/carers have any questions about attendance and/or punctuality, please see Miss Ensor or Miss Russell.

Let's all work together to beat our attendance target and improve our punctuality!
