Lady Katherine Leveson C of E Primary School
Where children come first!

Dear Visitor,

Thank you for taking the time to browse our website. I hope you find it interesting and informative. We have tried to give you a flavour of all the interesting and exciting activities that take place in our beautiful, unique and rural school.

The school came into existence in the 17th century following an instruction from Lady Katherine Leveson in her will that money be left to 'teach and instruct in learning twenty of the poorest boys of the inhabitants of Balsall Parish'. The unique and beautiful setting allows for an array of exciting and creative learning opportunities for all our children. Our children also benefit from the school being part of a wider community:  services are held weekly for the children in St. Mary’s Church and the children visit the elderly residents in Lady Katherine Housing and Care on a regular basis to discuss their learning with a different generation.

As a Church of England voluntary aided primary school, our Christian teachings are at the heart of everything we do. We are a one-form entry school, 2 miles from the villages of Knowle and Balsall Common and only 6 miles from Solihull town centre. We currently have over 170 children on role, aged between 3 and 11 and in addition, we also cater for 2 year olds as part of our extended schools agenda. Families travel from as far away as Birmingham to benefit from the broad education that is on offer throughout the school.

At Lady Katherine Leveson, we are committed to every child receiving the best education, in order that they reach their full potential. For this to happen it is essential that all members of the school community work well alongside each other, developing positive working relationships and maintaining the highest expectations of behaviour and learning. As a small school, we know each of our children extremely well and cater for their individual needs. We have high expectation of what they can achieve and believe that the whole child should be developed alongside their academic prowess. Our children appreciate the education on offer to them and leave school with a high level of self-esteem.

The curriculum offered to our children is broad, creative, exciting and challenging.  In addition to the National Curriculum, we also enrich the children’s’ learning through specialised weeks of learning, such as Art’s Week, Switch Off Fortnight, and Maths Week, among others. These, along with all our learning, are supported by the creative use of our natural site, educational visits and visitors from within our community and beyond.

Alongside our curriculum, the children’s experiences are further broadened through a wide range of clubs offered by the school staff. These include, among others: Space Club, Ice Skating, Gardening, Running and Cooking Club.

The school community is supportive and diverse. Many of our governors are regular visitors to school, working with the children to encourage their learning.  We have a thriving Parent’s Association, who, together with successful fund raising, plan many interesting and fun social events. We pride ourselves on our close relationship with our parents, who are well informed, involved and interested in their children’s education. Alongside them, we have high expectations of our children’s achievements, both in and out of school, which are celebrated in a weekly assembly, held for the whole community.

We are very proud of our children and our school, but it is one thing for us to tell you,and another for you to experience it for yourselves! We would be delighted to show you around our school, so please feel free to contact us at any time to make an appointment.
